Frank Kargol Obituary

Frank Edward Kargol

October 6, 1932 – August 15, 2025 (age 92)

Frank Edward Kargol, 92 passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at Bay Bluffs, Harbor Springs.

Frank was born on October 6, 1932 in Center Township, Michigan, son of Walter and Sophie (Bien) Kargol.

On October 10, 1953, he married Theresa Beer. Their 67 years of marriage was filled with love, devotion, and the raising of five children. Even after Theresa’s passing in 2021, the life they built together continued to be Frank’s greatest source of pride.

Frank spent his early years on a farm near Larks Lake where his strong farmer's hands became symbolic of his hard work and determination. He carried that work ethic with him when he moved to the Detroit area to work at the Dodge Factory in Hamtramck, making sure to return to the Petoskey area every other weekend to build his courtship with Theresa. He later worked as a clerk at Brock-Eckel Pharmacy before landing his career job at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company where he spent nearly 30 years before retiring. While at MichCon all other service employees knew they could count on Frank as their go-to guy for everything. He was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He found a hobby in bee-keeping and would travel many miles in the spring to get his queen bees to replace those that had not survived the harsh winters. For many years he provided his family and friends with the sweet, liquid gold that was his bees’ honey. His passion for deer hunting continued even after he turned 90. Snowmobiling, fishing, camping, and gardening brought much joy for his love of the outdoors. Although he was not the traveler, when arrangements were made he enjoyed his journeys with Theresa and family members. Devoted to his family, Frank always looked forward to supporting his grandchildren, cheering them on at their many sporting events with Theresa at his side. When one stopped by their home in Petoskey looking for Frank, there was a good chance he could be found tinkering in his pole barn where he would spend countless hours putzing around. No matter the day, Frank never failed to set aside what he was doing to put on a pot of coffee and enjoy the company.

Frank is survived by children Jim (Marcee) Kargol, Carolyn (Missy Lange) Kargol, Cindy (Louis) Rohrer, Catherine (Bill) Stonhouse, and son in law Mike Reeves; 20 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother Walter; sisters Helen, Genevieve, Stella & Lillian; daughter Christine and great granddaughter Olivia.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on August 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A rosary will begin at 9:30 AM and visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the gathering space. Burial will follow after Mass at St. Francis Cemetery.
