Frank Shaler Obituary

Frank William Shaler, 92, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 1, 2024, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, the same day as his father in 1960. He was born on July 18, 1931, to Frank Martin and Irene Fulton Shaler. He lived nearly his entire life in Boyne City, graduating in 1950, Athlete of the Year.                                                                                     

While serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he married Ann Carson on June 15, 1951. He served two years in the U.S. National Guard and as Foreperson on the Federal Grand Jury, Grand Rapids. 

Settling in Boyne to raise his family, he worked at Courter Products, was Patrol Officer for Boyne City Police Department, and finished his career as Quality Control/Safety Director at Freedman Art Craft, Charlevoix. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader and Treasurer of Boyne Sports Boosters,      

Frank traveled to all fifty states, Mexico, Canada and Europe, tracing ancestors in Ireland and Scotland; they wintered in Florida.     

Frank is survived by his wife Ann of seventy-two years and children: Kathy (deceased), Frank A and Connie, David and Deanna (deceased), Kevin, Karen and John. Grandchildren: Michelle (Stephen) Seelye, Frank David Shaler, and Becky (Rylan) Kahly; Matthew and Garrett Shaler; Jennifer (Greg) Snyder and Valerie Shaler; Natalie (Joe Lattimore) and Connor Lindsay. Great-grandchildren: Aurora, Annabelle, Ella Seelye; David, Zander, and Cannon Shaler; Jonah, Simon, and Abram Kahly; Autumn and Peter Snyder; Mason Shaler, Melody and Grayson Ritch; Howl Lattimore; Madeline Sweeney. Brothers-in-law: Dr. Roy Hills and Jerry Collins; sister-in-law: Becky Carson; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.     

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Russell and Yvonne Shaler, Pat and Scoop Upton, George and Ellen Shaler, Sally and Ed Pasque.

Services will be held at St. Matthew Church, Boyne City. Rosary at 5:30 and visitation from 6:00-8:00 on Monday April 8; visitation at 10:00am and Mass at 11:00 on Tuesday, April 9, burial and luncheon to follow.     

Thank you to all caregivers who assisted Dad this past year. It meant the world to his family. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Boyne Waterfront Field of Dreams in his honor. He loved kids and watching them play.
