Fred H. Amorose, 99 of Petoskey died July 26, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Fred was born on February 28, 1921 in Boyers, PA, the son of Nicolo and Lena (Ponton) Amoroso. On February 24, 1942, Fred joined the Marine Corps and served as a Corporal with the 4th Regiment of the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, serving in the Pacific Theater with the consolidation of the Solomon’s, Occupation of New Georgia Islands, as well as the assault and capture of Guam, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Upon receiving his honorable discharge on February 25, 1946, Fred returned home and went to work for US Steel for 43 years, retiring as a Construction Foreman.
On September 7, 1946, Fred married the love of his life and woman with whom he celebrated almost 74 years of marriage with, Marilyn Wilson, and together they had 4 children.
Fred was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Petoskey and enjoyed gardening, golf, hunting, and fishing, but his favorite pastime and joy was spending time with his wife and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; son, Jay Amorose of Grand Blanc; daughter, Joy (David) McBride of Petoskey; granddaughter, Adria; and by 4 great grandchildren, Blase, Kaleigh, Jaelynn, and Gage. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children, Gae and Jon; and by 8 siblings.
Private family services will be held.
