Frederick C Brosofske

Frederick Charles Brosofske (Fred), 74, of Charlevoix passed away on April 16, 2022.  Although his battle with dementia in recent years was difficult, it could not take away his strength of spirit or love for his family.

Fred was born on April 18, 1947 to Edward and Hazel (Angevine) Brosofske.  He was a carpenter by trade and worked for over 40 years for Harbor Industries in Charlevoix.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and being in the woods.  He could fix almost anything and enjoyed working on cars and anything mechanical, spending much of his time tinkering.  He was always reading, usually a good western, and enjoyed a good puzzle as well.  He taught all his children and grandchildren how to be creative, explore, solve problems, have a good time, and make a good mess (much to his wife’s dismay).    

Fred married the love of his life, Mattie Stoneburner, on August 30, 1965.  They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2015 before Mattie’s death in 2016.

Fred is survived by his four children, Rhonda (Phill) Skeel, Kimberley Brosofske, Sandra (Tim) Cole, and Frederick W (Starr) Brosofske; four grandchildren, Jessica (Jake) Jensen, Dyllan Skop, Jason Brosofske, and Madison Brosofske; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Seymour, Hayden Gardner, and Kaitlyn Jensen; two sisters, Jeannette Inch, and Carol (Richard) Chase; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mattie, his parents, and a sister, Sue Brokenshire.

Fred developed a special relationship with the staff and residents in Glacier Hill House at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire over the past 3 years.  He formed a new, nonbiological family who will be missed.

A memorial service celebrating Fred’s life will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 11am at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, where the family will receive friends from 10am until the time of service.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.   The family will also host a gathering following the service at 9332 Harris St in Ellsworth.
