Frederick “Fred” Reimann, Jr., 87 of Cheboygan, died on December 22, 2025 at his home, in the arms of his loving family.
Fred was born on May 17, 1938 in Cheboygan, MI, son of Frederick and Vitalys (Yorgey) Reimann. Fred grew up in Cheboygan and attended Pellston High School, graduating with the Class of 1957. Following his high school graduation, Fred proudly joined the US Navy where he served aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Macon. Fred made note to tell his stories of crossing the Arctic Circle and Equator in the same year, as well as his various travels across the World. He was then transferred to the amphibious assault ship, the USS FortSnelling, from which he received his Honorable Discharge as the rank of Petty Officer, Third Class. Upon returning home after the service, Fred went to work at the Detroit Tap and Tool for twenty years, after which Fred started his own business; Reimann’s Cottage Care.
On May 23, 1964, Fred married the love of his life, Carol Socolovitch, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville, MI. During their 60+ year marriage, they welcomed two sons, a grandson and granddaughter.
Fred spent many years enjoying the folks that summered at Burt Lake; many of which turned into lifelong friends. Fred’s retirement years were much enjoyed. Between trapping, hunting, fishing and stacking prestigious wood piles, he always kept busy. Fred spent each summer day, watering and caring for his vegetable and flower gardens. His reasoning for the hard work was to create a gorgeous landscape for his sweetheart, Carol, to enjoy.
Fred lived his entire life in Riggsville, growing up on his parents dairy farm, now operated as ‘Reimann Farms’ by his nephew, Carl Reimann. Fred lived each day to the fullest, enjoying the small things in life. During his last years, he did not let age defy him. Just this past fall, at 87 years old, he still climbed a tree stand to harvest a buck.
Fred also spent days upon end in his trapping shed. During these times, he not only brought an income into his home, but taught both his sons and grandchildren the art of harvesting animals. During which, he shared stories of his life, with many of his jokes and laughs joining in.
Fred was a US Navy hero, as well as a proud father and grandfather; but most importantly, a vowed husband to Carol.
Fred is preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings, Hank Reimann and RuthAnn Reimann, as well as his best friend and only grandson, Bradley Reimann. Fred is survived by his wife Carol, their two sons, Dennis (Nicole) Reimann and Scott Reimann. As well as his loving granddaughter, Erica Reimann and brother Ed (Shirley) Reimann.
Fred was a lover of all Northern Michigan has to offer. If you feel compelled, the family asks that donations be made to ‘Burt Lake Preservation Association’ to continue the preservation and prosperity of Burt Lake, as it has given so much to us.
A celebration of life will take place in the early Summer of 2026. Details will be released at a later date.
