Frederick Dale Zapfe

Frederick D. Zapfe, age 84, of Cheboygan passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Castle Rock Retirement Center in St. Ignace. He was born January 25, 1937 in Flint, the son of Owen and Emma (Thiel) Zapfe. On February 24, 1968 in Cheboygan, Fred married Rochelle Cousins who survives.

Fred had served with the Michigan National Guard for several years and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company retiring in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and loved living on the Cheboygan River.

Besides his wife Rochelle, Fred is survived by his three children, Missy (Paul) Koszegi, Michael Zapfe and Melanie (Chris) Hansen, grandchildren, Victoria, Andrew, Jacob and Isabelle Zapfe and Emma and Logan Hansen, his brother, Jack Zapfe and his best friend, Don Morrison.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Zapfe.

The funeral service will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Michael Schaedig will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
