Garry Grimm Obituary

Garry Thomas Grimm, 71, of Boyne City, Michigan, died at home on December 20, 2025.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 December 23, preceded by visitation at 10:00, both at Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church (7111 US-31 in Acme, MI), Father Ciprian Streza officiating. Burial will not take place until spring.

Garry was born December 5, 1954 in Petoskey, Michigan, the eldest son of William Nelson Grimm and Jean Watson Grimm, and grew up in Boyne City. He attended college at North Central and Michigan State University, and proudly declared himself a senior in five disciplines. On April 20, 1985 he married Ann Elizabeth Shaw in Lansing, Michigan. After 38 years as Lansing’s best barber (everyone else’s assessment, not his own!), Garry worked for ten years at GM’s Delta plant. In the course of his many working years, he served in a variety of business and Christian organizations, including as president of the Eastside Business Association. Although he had many hobbies, his vocation and avocation was always prayer. Growing up, the family were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City. As an adult, he belonged first to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lansing and then to Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church in Acme Michigan.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Archangel Gabriel Icon Fund.

Garry is survived by his wife of 40 years, six daughters and eleven grandchildren: 1) Caroline Rose, Abraham Jasen, jr. and Lawrence Timothy, 2) Andrea Jane (Jose Joaquin Carranza), Nora Alexandra, 3) Alexandra Marie (Dane Benjamin Nye), William Ignatius and Romana Alexander, 4) Barbara Elaine (Markos Woldeberhan Sorhe), Afiyana Markos and Noah Markos, 5) Sarah Jean (Scott Taylor Griggs), Aria Rose, Catalina Lynn, Francisco Taylor, and Guillermo Squire, and 6) Sister Maura Christine of St. Arsenios Monastery in Decatur, Texas. He is also survived by his brother David (Julia) Grimm, his sister Mary Jean (Scott) Bunker, many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and untold numbers of loving friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and one infant brother, Gordon.
