Gary Roe, 82, of Cheboygan, Michigan, passed away at his home on November 25, 2025, the result of a stroke experienced the previous week.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, he was the first of three children born to Blaine and Juanita Roe. Gary joined the Michigan State Highway Department, now the Michigan Department of Transportation, after his 1961 graduation from Eastern High School. He retired in 1997 after 36 years with the Department. He moved from Lansing to Cheboygan in 2004.
Gary enjoyed a wide variety of physical activities including hockey, softball, ice skating, water-skiing, cross country skiing, handball, and racquetball. Muscle cars and hot boats were a continuing passion. He made many life-long friends through these pursuits. He was especially pleased to have recently reconnected with “the guys from gym”.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Jim Irvin. He is survived by his wife Jane, his son David (Kelly), three grandchildren, Blake (Brianna), Harley, and Dawson, sister Carolyn Irvin, and brother Steve (Karen) Roe. The newest, very special addition to Gary's heart is great-granddaughter Sadie Jo Roe. Upon meeting Sadie, Gary declared, "Love at first sight."
Gary will be remembered for his positive attitude, caring nature, kindness, and his love of life.
