Genevieve Jaworski (Rymut), age 94, died at home peacefully in Petoskey, Michigan, on February 17, 2026.
Genevieve was a source of love and warmth to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She was born on June 11, 1931, in Belleville, Michigan, the daughter of John and Mary (Garncarz) Rymut. On June 18, 1953, she married Verne Merritt where they lived in Belleville, MI. She moved up north in 1966, where she made her new home in Indian River, MI. She worked at the State Hospital in Gaylord for a few years before they closed. Genevieve then worked and retired from Tube Fab in Michigan. She enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league in Cheboygan. She also loved playing Euchre and played at the Shrine and Sportsman’s Club where she met and married Robert Jaworski. Her true passion was for her family and grandchildren. She spent as much time with them as she could. Genevieve went to every concert, program and sports event she was able to all the way up to getting sick.
Genevieve is survived by her son Verne (Sharleen) Merritt; daughter Gina (Dave Lox) Slowinski; 3 bonus step grandchildren Annette Wilson Framer, Bill Wilson and Trase Wilson Moss; grandchildren Verne Merritt IV, Shiloh (Merritt) Bilovus, Nick (Brooke) Slowinski, Ben Slowinski; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her parents; husband Robert Jaworski; and her Rymut siblings, Anna Publiski, Josephine Adams, Jennie Layman, Raymond Rymut, Edward Rymut, and Laura Closs.
A memorial will take place in May 2026 at the Cross in The Woods Cemetery, Indian River. She will be blessed and put into her final resting place with a luncheon to follow.
