George Jury Obituary

George H. Jury passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.  He was born on January 9, 1929 to parents Glenn and Loretta Jury.  George is predeceased by his parents, his cherished sister Mary Ann Trulove, and his beloved first wife, Jo-Ann Jury.  He is survived by his wife, the second love of his life, Jan (Parsons) Jury, for seventeen wonderful years.  George was loved by his long-term Greenwood Foundation employees, who were like his family (Dave and Muffie McCauley); Jan’s family (Robyn (John Paul) Kloss, Nathan (Shawn) Parsons, Dana (Tracy) Phillips; seven grandchildren; plus many friends. He was a kind and gentle soul, had a generous heart, and was a joy to many friends and co-workers over the years.

George graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in mechanical engineering.  He and his father started Inland Tool, a highly successful manufacturing company in Detroit, Michigan. Upon retirement and moving to northern Michigan, he   and Jo-Ann formed Greenwood Foundation in 1964, in where he devoted many years of his life.  Greenwood Foundation is a wildlife sanctuary which is heavily forested, has three lakes, and four miles of Little Pigeon River.  Greenwood is shared and loved by many.  George protected the property with a Conservation Easement with the Little Traverse Conservancy to insure the land will be kept in its natural state.

George was elected as a Cheboygan County commissioner, at which time he was instrumental in the building of the Wolverine Community Library & Community Center and the Cheboygan County Marina…..all great assets for the communities.

The one word which describes George best is gentleman. His infectious smile, twinkle in his eye, and tendency for mischief would light up any room.  George will be missed and his memory will forever be carried in our hearts.

A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held July 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM with a one hour visitation prior to Mass, at Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church, 150 W. Main Street, Harbor Springs, MI 49740.

Donations may be made to Friendship Center of Emmet County, (1322 Anderson Road, Petoskey, MI 48770); Little Traverse Conservancy, (3264 Powell Road, Harbor Springs, MI 49740); or your favorite charity.
