Gerald “Gee” Charles Watson

Gerald “Gee” Watson, of Cheboygan, passed away April 10, 2025 surrounded by family and loved ones at the American House in Jenison, MI. 

A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, Gee was born on July 17, 1935, in Cheboygan to Walter and Elizabeth (Redmond) Watson. Gee married Patricia L (Atchison) Watson on December 27, 1954.  Gee was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church and part of the first graduating Class of Cheboygan Catholic High School in 1953. 

Gee was active in coaching throughout his entire life.  He coached various youth and high school teams from the late 1950s until the early 1990s.  Gee loved the players on his teams and would often discuss many great memories that impacted his life. From Little League baseball to football to basketball, he had many stories of players that he coached in Cheboygan. 

Gee held various positions around Northern Michigan.  He started out at the Cheboygan Candy Company after graduating high school.  Moving on to Adams/Seyfert’s Potato Chips and then to distributing the Detroit Free Press throughout Cheboygan and the Eastern UP. 

Surviving are Gee’s six children, Marianne (Ken) Filary of Grandville, Mich., Charley Watson of Cheboygan, Teresa Watson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Tom (Camy) Watson of North Carolina, Kim (Phil) Oakes of Muskegon, Mich., and John (Cassie) Watson of Farmington, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Yas) Napoli, Carlos (Grace) Calderon, Trent (Erin) Watson, Gera (Kavon) Frazier, Nicklas Watson, Trey (Anna) Watson, Max Watson, Rachel Watson, Grace (Lukas) Buck, Isabel Watson, Jeff Filary, Sydney and Kate Winter. 9 Great-grandchildren, Lyra, Kali, Alayah, Guy, Julian, Kyler, Mavis, Francis, Zariah and many cousins. 

Gee was preceded in death by his daughter, Geri Lynn, wife, Patricia, and parents Walter and Elizabeth.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22 at 11am, with a rosary and visitation beginning at 9am at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate. A luncheon will be provided at the Cheboygan Eagles Club immediately following the service. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
