Gertrude M. Haines, 96, of Afton died at home on Tuesday February 16,2021.
Gertie, as she was known to her friends, was born on February 13, 1925 in Flint Michigan to Willis and Blanche Cain. She married George O. Haines in Madison, Wisc. on Sept 6.1944. She made her home and raised her family in Afton and retired from the Afton Tube Fab. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and quilting. Along with her baking and canning she enjoyed shopping and eating out with family and friends. She was a member of the Afton Aides and Afton Community Club and for a number of years served on on the Walker Township election board. She attended the Inland Lighthouse Church.
Gertie is survived by all 9 of her children: Virginia Kitchen of Cheboygan, Charlene Derhammer of Cheboygan, Charles Haines of Afton, Cheryl Kennedy of Cheboygan, Karen Miller of Crystal, Carl Haines of Bronson, Mi, David Haines of Afton, Donna Gies of Afton, and Paula Flotka of Carson City, Mi. Survivors also include a sister, Olga Gardner of Washington, Mi, a brother Lloyd Cain of Holt Mi, a sister-in-law Phyllis (Jane) Mercer of Candler, NC, many grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Blanche Cain, a brother Harold Cain, a sister Lucille Mosher, two son-in-laws Tom Kennedy and Rick Flotka and a daughter-in-law Nola Haines.
Services are scheduled for 1 pm on Friday, February 19, 2021 with visitation from 11-1 at the Stone Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Indian River. Masks and social distancing are required.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to Hospice or a charity of choice.
