Glory Margaret Barden, 86, of Boyne City, Michigan, peacefully went to our heavenly father surrounded by her children on February 20, 2025, at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix, Michigan, after a long battle of dementia.
Glory was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on July 13, 1938, to Gordon and Nellie (Burns) Flodquist and had one sister Geri. She lived her childhood in Royal Oak and found herself in the summers enjoying Walloon Lake, Michigan on the Burns family Homestead on Burns Farm Road in Boyne City. It was one summer in Boyne City where she met her husband of 61 years, John (Edward “Ed”) Barden and were married in the fall of 1958. Glory graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1956 and continued her education at University of Detroit Mercy and in 1958 graduated as a registered nurse from Grace Hospital in Detroit.
As a talented artist Glory sang and painted her way through life. Her love of singing took her from singing in her high school choir, to joining the Masonic Rainbow Girls, to later becoming a member of St. Matthews choir in Boyne City where she could not only enjoy her love of singing but also her love of God. Glory discovered a passion for painting and took up oil painting, her work could be seen in the 70’s displayed on the shores of Lake Charlevoix at the East Jordan Art festival.
Glory had a heart of compassion being a registered nurse and spent time volunteering at the now Bergman Center when it first originated. She also had a passion for animals, contributing to the Charlevoix Humane Society and raising another love of her life her dog “Babe”. Another love of hers was the joy of reading, at any given day she would be seen reading the Bible or a variety of novels.
Glory was preceded in death by her husband John (Edward) Barden; parents Gordon and Nellie Flodquist; son Thomas Barden; and sister Geri DeBrabant.
Glory is survived by her children Michael (Pamela) Barden of St. Joseph, MI, Paul (Yumi) Barden of Boyne City, MI, Barbara (Mark) Pruetz of Lake Orion, MI, and Amy (Jim Galvas) Barden of Boyne City, MI; grandchildren Bethany (Chad) Glyde, Jeffrey (Angela) Pruetz, Michael Barden, Nicholas (Kelly Moloney) Barden, Asuka Barden, Kyle (Mike) Cameron and Jordan Barden; great-grandchildren Brady, Austin, Oliver, Abby, Rowe, Shaw and Nina.
We would like to extend our grateful heart and gratitude for the loving staff at Boulder Park Terrace and Hospice care our mother received from McLaren Hospice.
