Gordon Robinson Obituary

Gordon W. Robinson, age 81, of Horton Bay, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Gordon was born August 14, 1939 to Charles A. and Myrtle B. (Hunt) Robinson also of Horton Bay. Gordon was a lifelong resident of Bay Township, Michigan.

Gordon graduated from Boyne City High School in 1958. He attended Central Michigan University where he earned a B.A. in Education in 1964. He met the first love of his life (Doris Anne Hoffman) at a community dance in Horton Bay.  They were married August 25, 1962.  They raised 3 sons (Gordon, Charles, Galen) on their dairy farm on West Rd.

Gordon was a lifelong educator that taught English at Charlevoix Public School until retirement in 1994. After retirement from teaching, Gordon worked with draft horses giving free wagon and sleigh rides. He enjoyed sharing what God had provided with others. His motto was ‘Enjoy God’s creation at the fast pace of horse power.’

Gordon loved the Lord and served in the Horton Bay United Methodist Church for many years and later attended the Walloon Lake Community Church. He also loved and supported the Northern Michigan Holiness Camp. His earthly interests included hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, farming, making maple syrup, and working with his draft horses. Many of these interests were passed down to his sons, their wives, and grandchildren.

Gordon loved to travel. He toured the Canadian provinces, Alaska, and the western U.S. One favorite spot was in the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness in northern Minnesota where Gordon eventually introduced the bounties of this amazing experience with his sons and their families. He was the patriarchal pioneer that stimulated this family recreational tradition. Gordon’s greatest life journey though remains with Jesus and walking closer to Him.

Gordon is survived by his wife Theresa M. Robinson; three sons, Gordon II (MiSuk) of Greenville, Michigan, Charles D. (Cheryl) of Horton Bay, Michigan, and Galen E. (Barbara) of Boyne City, Michigan; grandchildren, Heather (William) Vandenheuvel, Mikayla Robinson, Steven (Nikki) Robinson, Megan (Dave) Grabowski, Hannah (Brendan) Baic, Cameron (Anna) Robinson, Dylan Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Joshua Robinson; great grandchildren, Abigail, Doris, Madelyn; also one brother C. Allyn (Josephine) Robinson of Petoskey, Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his father and mother, and loving wife of 48 years Doris A. Robinson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January15th, 2021, at Walloon Lake Community Church with a visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
