Guy Britton Jr. Obituary

On February 9th, 2021, Guy Britton, Jr. passed away at 79 years of age in the care of Bay Bluffs Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Guy was born to Guy Britton, Sr. and Abbie Britton on September 4th, 1941 in Lansing, Michigan where he grew up alongside his two older sisters, Ann Marchant and Barbara Oppenlander.

After graduating from J.W. Sexton High School in 1959, Guy continued his studies at Western Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor of Science. In the years following, he enlisted in the US Army during which time he was stationed in North Korea from 1966-1968. Upon his return, Guy went straight back to work at Production Equipment Systems where he took over as owner in 1974 and remained until 2006. Guy gave retirement a try but ultimately found that he had too much more to offer and in 2009 opened Guy’s Detailing as an opportunity to work with young members of the community as well as teach them about business and cars.

Guy never met a problem he couldn’t fix. He was always offering up his services to friends and members of his community. As a member of First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs, Guy helped with numerous building projects and was a “Greeter”, making sure everyone felt welcomed for Sunday services. In addition to this, Guy was able to combine his passion for service with his love of cars in helping organize the church’s “Father’s Day Cruise In” car show as well as “Harbor Springs’ Cars in the Park”. There you could find him and his beloved wife, Lynn, in their 1933 Buick Street Rod.

In addition to his love of cars and helping others, Guy enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, playing cribbage, and a good ole’ bowl of chocolate ice cream. He was kind, funny, wildly intelligent, and wholeheartedly devoted to his loved ones and his community.

Guy lives on through his friends and family. In addition to countless others, he is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Lynn Britton, his stepdaughter Karlene (Allen) Belyea, and his grandchildren Tyler (Kim Cui) Belyea, and Kelsey Belyea. Although Guy will be dearly missed by many, we can take solace in knowing how delighted he must be to be reunited with the loved ones that passed before him.  No public services are planned at this time.

Friends and family wishing to remember Guy through a charitable contribution are asked to consider, Bay Bluffs Foundation, 750 E. Main St., Harbor Springs, MI 49740.  Arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home.  Those wishing to share memories or offer condolences are also welcome to do so online at www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com.
