Lifelong area resident, Guy W. Washburn passed away in the early morning hours of February 9th, 2019 at Villa by the Bay in Petoskey.
He was born December 6, 1936 to Daniel A. and Florence (Erforth) Washburn in Boyne City, one of 18 children born to the couple.
On January 18, 1963 Guy married Ruth Louise Miller in Petoskey where the two made their home. Together they raised three children, Dan, Joan and Michael. Guy worked for nearly all of his adult life as a painter, he was a hard worker and well respected in the trades. He was a great neighbor and friend, always willing to help anyone, and generous to a fault. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed a good practical joke. He was a great husband and father, loving and giving. He stayed active as possible in retirement and was seldom idle, always looking for the next project. He enjoyed fishing, working on puzzles, baking and watching old westerns.
Guy was sadly preceded in death by his son Michael on September 1, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruth on January 5, 2014, by his parents and by 17 of his siblings. Surviving Guy is his son Dan (Caryn) Washburn of Petoskey, Joan (Yorrick Rydzewski) Washburn of Chicago, 2 grandchildren Tim (Christina) Washburn of Petoskey and Jordan Washburn of California and a wonderful friend and neighbor Vickey Skaggs. He is also survived by a number of his in-laws Andy (Sue) Miller of Walloon Lake, Jeff (Mary) Miller of Walloon Lake, Betty Miller of Petoskey, Ken (Donna) Billideau of Petoskey and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Guy's family are planning a memorial service that will take place in the coming months and will be announced by Stone Funeral Home.
