Harold “Buster” Wayne Mapes, Sr., 78, of Boyne City, died September 9, 2023 at home.
Buster was born on November 5, 1944, the son of Racil and Olive (Knapp) Mapes. He was born and raised in Boyne City and lived there all his life.
He worked for Matelski Lumber as a sawmill operator for over 30 years. In his spare time, Buster enjoyed mowing the lawn, tinkering in the yard and garage, and gardening. He grew everything from flowers to vegetables, and had a green thumb. He liked to act like he was a tough guy but if you got to truly know Buster, you knew he was actually a teddy bear.
He is survived by his wife Alma Mapes; his children, Bambi (Kevin) Moore of Boyne City, Harold Jr. (Tammy) Mapes of Charlevoix, and Jennifer (Chris) Kinner of Boyne Falls; grandchildren, Derik Moore, Christopher (Abby) Moore, Amber Mapes, Dorenda Klintworth, Nicole (Blake) Kroondyke, Harold III (Katelynn) Mapes, Hannah (Dusty) Marquardt, and Gabriel Reinhardt; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Madison Moore, Eloise, Madelyn and Kenny Ormsbee, Sadie, Theodore, Jasper, Melody, and Saylor Klintworth, Abigale, Gracie, and Bentley Kroondyke, Jude Reinhardt, and Bruce Marquardt; his sister, Betty Mapes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Racil “Pepper” Mapes, Dawn Mapes and Lucille Hersha.
There are no services planned at this time.
