Howards C. “Big Chief” Vieau, Sr., age 81, of Mackinaw City passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his brother’s home in Alanson. He was born April 23, 1939 in Cheboygan, the son of William and Marion (Bodwin) Vieau, Sr. On August 27, 1958 in Petoskey, Howard married Carol Carlson who preceded him in death on May 8, 2019.
Howard was a truck driver for Bell’s Fishery in Mackinaw City, retiring after 44 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking, mushroom hunting, going for rides and walking the beach.
Survivors include his four children, Gary Vieau of St. Ignace, Mike (Carri) Vieau of Carp Lake, Randy (Leah) Vieau of Cheboygan and Diane Turman of Topinabee, one brother, David (Pat) Vieau of Alanson, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife Carol, Howard was preceded in death by five children, Howard, Danny, Mark, John and Matthew, siblings, Patricia Kalkofen, Robert Vieau, Henry Vieau, Sharon Stoneburner, Shirley Griesbach and Mary Brown and one great granddaughter, Gracelyn Vieau.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Mackinaw City Bible Church with Pastor Reid Nelson officiating. His ashes will be buried with his wife Carol in Lakeview Cemetery in Mackinaw City in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mackinaw City Bible Church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
