Irene Wright (Anderson) went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2025, after living an amazing 101 years. She was surrounded by her family in her hometown, Cheboygan, Michigan.
Irene was born May 18, 1923, to Violet and Edward Anderson. She is now reunited with her husband Dick and her son Brian plus siblings; Glen Anderson, Margaret Massey, Ruth Gundry, Lillian Kihn and Ray Anderson.
In her teenage years, she moved from Cheboygan to Detroit for a job. Irene married Dick Wright in 1943. They raised 4 children, Peggy (Dick) Griffin, Jane (Ken) Grace, Ken (Sue) Wright and Brian (Penny) Wright while they lived in Redford, Mi. As faithful followers of Jesus they were very involved in the Dearborn Covenant Church.
They moved their beautiful family to Cheboygan in 1967 and built a house on the Anderson farm property. There are still family members who live on the property her parents developed all those years ago.
Her grandfather, Olaf Romblom donated the land for and was a founding member of the Swedish Covenant Church in 1889. Today this church is known as the Covenant Church of Cheboygan, and Irene was a very active member. In her later years she and a group of friends became the “80’s Ladies” of the church. On top of having an active church life, Irene worked at the Cheboygan High school and the Cheboygan District Court. She established many family traditions, especially Swedish ones, involving food and Holidays. The Legacy of her traditions will live long beyond her 101 years.
If you knew Irene, you loved her. She was a wonderful person, wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandmother of 13, great grandmother of 25 and then great-great grandmother to 4. We are greatly encouraged to know that Irene is with Jesus, and we will miss her deeply!
A memorial service will take place later this spring in honor of Irene. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the Cheboygan Covenant Church, 3424 E, US-23, Cheboygan Mi, 49721. Please list “Irene Wright Memorial” in the memo.
