Jackie "Jack" Lee Diener

Jackie “Jack” Lee Diener, 63, of Boyne City, Michigan passed away surrounded by his wife and daughter on Sunday, April 21st, 2024.

A loving husband, proud father, son, and friend, Jack was well loved by all he encountered. Jack grew up on the farm loving well water and unpasteurized milk from the cows he helped tend right up until his death. 

As a father, Jack was the biggest supporter, most times showing up to school events still in his work uniform, in clothes dirty from the farm, or still smokey from camp. Warm and compassionate, Jack was always the first to show up when help was needed and the last to leave when the job was done. Jack was the first to crack a joke and enjoy a hardy laugh, especially when he was “being shifty”. He enjoyed nature, old cars, and spending time with his childhood friends backcountry camping at Dog Lake and along the creek on Slashing Road. 

Jack retired from UPS after more than 30 years of service, befriending both his coworkers and the families he delivered to. He spoke fondly of watching his customers' children grow, their gifts, and kindness to him. During the last two years of his retirement Jack had gotten the chance to tap into his creative flare that is best showcased by his beloved flower gardens, metal yard sculptures, and his love of woodworking. He and his wife Valerie, of more than 40 years, enjoyed many afternoons cruises, garage saleing, dumpster diving, and overall picking during the summer months in their convertible “Baby”. Jack, was in every sense of the words, a Jack of all trades and loved life. 

Jack is survived in life by his wife Valerie L. Diener, his daughter Marcie I. Diener (Seth Smith), mother Donna J. Diener (deceased Clifford E. Diener), sister Donna J. Diener Boring (Gregory Boring, and brother Clifford E. Diener (Sheila, Alex, and Jacob Diener). He was preceded in death by his son Jackie L. Diener II, father Clifford E. Diener, and grandparents Irene and Howard Boyer, grandmother Marcella “Marcy” King, and cousin Howard “Howie” Boyer.

A celebration of life for Jack will be on June 8, 2024 at the Whitings Park Pavilion from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Please bring a dish to pass, and hamburgers will be supplied.
