James Cassidy Obituary

JAMES RUSSELL CASSIDY

James Russell Cassidy, age 77, died peacefully at his home in Harbor Springs, MI on October 28, surrounded by his loving family. His battle with serious medical issues over the past three years showed his courage and grit, facing life challenges with a smile. Despite his condition, Jim continued to fight to see his only daughter get married this summer, and spend quality time with his two young grandsons. He kept his sense of humor and never once complained, staying strong until the end.

Jim was born on November 12, 1945 in Petoskey, MI to Robert and Catherine Cassidy. He spent his primary school years in Harbor Springs then attended college at Ferris State University and Los Angeles Community College. He joined the Army in 1967 where he served for two years, stationed in the U.S. and Europe. Jim was a fixture in the Harbor Springs community where he and his business partner, Al Major, owned and operated Al and Jim’s Tree Service together for almost 50 years. Jim and Al created a great company that continues today.  Jim enjoyed escaping the cold and spending the winter months in Florida, catching up with friends, spending time with his family on the beach, and deep sea fishing. Whether meeting Jim on a job or having a beer with him at the Legion, he touched many lives and his stories will live on.

Jim is survived by his children, Matt (Cody) and Megan (Ray), siblings, Margaret, Cathy and Bob (Lois), grandsons, Brooks and Shea, and former wife, Cory Cassidy. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Catherine, and brothers, Michael and Thomas.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date to honor Jim’s amazing life. The family would like to thank his amazing caregivers over the past three years for their tremendously loving care.
