James Donald Richards “Don”, 69, of Boyne City, passed away unexpectedly in his home on the morning of November 4th 2018. Don was born in Boyne City on February 20th, 1949. He was a graduate of Boyne City High School and also served his country by enlisting in the US Navy.
In March, 1974, he married Loretta Klein and was happily married for 44 years. Don and Loretta raised four sons who blessed them with eleven grandchildren.
Don retired after 40 years as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers.
He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports and other events. He loved spending time with his grandkids teaching them to fish. He was passionate about his fishing. He spent a lot of time out on the water or ice doing what he loved.
Don is survived by his wife Loretta and his father Joseph. He is also survived by his sons Aaron (Niki), Eric (Dana), Jason (Kelly) and Don (Mandi) and his eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Jackie, Billie, Cindy, Kathy, and brothers, Joe, Mike, Todd and many other friends and family.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Richards and his brother Rick.
Friends are invited to take part in a celebration of Don’s life on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Walloon Lake Community Church. A gathering will be held from 10:00-11:00am prior to a memorial service that will start at 11:00am. A luncheon will follow immediately after the memorial service in the Walloon Lake Community Church multi-purpose room. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
