James “Jimi” McTevia Obituary

James “Jimi” McTevia, 64 of Petoskey, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2026.

Jimi was born on September 8, 1961 in Port Huron, MI, the son of James and Joan (Mudridge) McTevia and was raised in Port Huron, where he attended the Port Huron Northern High School.  Jimi lived in Florida for a number of years and worked commercial construction with his older brother, until he got into the painting profession.  He moved back up to Michigan and settled in Northern Michigan to continue his painting career.

Jimi loved the ocean and was at peace while on his paddle board.  He also always had a deep connection with sea turtles and used to enjoy watching them be released at the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Rescue Center in Jupiter, Florida.   Jimi had a precious soul and was loved deeply by those whom he encountered in his life.  Most importantly, Jimi loved Jesus and kept a deep connection through the various organizations that helped him grow spiritually.

Jimi is survived by his parents, James and Joan McTevia of Chesterfield, MI; sister, Anita (John) Dupes of Grosse Pointe Woods, 2 brothers, Michael (Mary) McTevia of Harbor Springs and John McTevia of Gaylord; son, Jason (Joy) Camden of Cebu, Philippines; grandson, Kai Camden; and by many nieces and nephews.  Jimi was preceded in death by a daughter, Joselyn Camden.
