Janet Rae (Munson) Gilmore, 86 of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away on March 12, 2025, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan.
Daughter of Harry K. Munson and Alice G (King) Munson, Janet was born on October 16, 1938, in Charlevoix, Michigan. She grew up in Boyne City and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1957. Janet attended North Central Michigan College from 1979 to 1984 and earned a degree as a registered respiratory therapist.
On December 4, 2007, she married Russell Gilmore in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Janet enjoyed doing many things. She taught line dancing and loved flower gardening. She liked to do jigsaw puzzles, read, play the banjo, go bowling, knit, crochet, cross country ski, go running, snowmobile, and ride motorcycles also. She enjoyed doing extensive research on her family tree and genealogy along with Boyne City history. She liked to participate in the senior center activities and was an advocate for saving the historic Water Works building and old trees in Boyne City. Janet loved and had multiple dogs and cats. She also loved Christmas and decorating gorgeous trees with her family.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Flywheelers, and the Boyne City Eagles. In October of 1991 Janet accepted Christ and became a member of the Walloon Lake Community Church and was a member of the East Jordan Community Church.
Janet was also on many committees, including Northern Michigan Hospital Picnic, Annual 50’s Dance, 1957 Class Reunion, All Class Reunion in Boyne City, Senior Steppers Line Dancing Club and Just for Kicks Line Dancing Club.
She is survived by her children: Ellen Hosking of Indian River, MI, Sherry (Rocky) Clark of Indian River, MI, David Larsen of Boyne City, MI, Tina Larsen of Traverse City, MI, and Jill Charbeneau of Houghton Lake, MI; her sister Kathy (Marvin) Potter; ten grandchildren: Paula, Justin, Angela, Bridgett, Julie, Becky, Vance, Samantha, David and Cory; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces Sharon (Dean) Alger and Karen (Jason) Ratliff; nephew Ken Ordiway; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband Russell, her parents Harry and Alice Munson, and her sister Delores Sheets.
Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Janet’s memory are asked by family to consider the Boyne City Senior Center or the Charlevoix Area Humane Society.
A visitation will be held at Stackus Funeral Home on March 23, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A funeral officiated by Pastor Jason Richey will be at the Walloon Lake Community Church on March 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM and visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
A graveside service will be on May 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
