Janet Sydow Obituary

Janet Ann Sydow passed away December 30, 2025. She was born January 2, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to Andrew and Stella Kloss. Her family later moved to Harbor Springs, Michigan, where they made their home on a farm.

She married Dennis Sydow on October 18, 1969. They made their home in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

She attended Holy Childhood school through the eighth grade and graduated from Harbor Springs High School. She earned an IT certificate in Gaylord, Michigan, and began her career in information technology with EDS, working for Ross Perot. She also spent two years working in the kitchen for Emmet County Care Facility (now Bay Bluffs). Janet later continued her IT career at Northern Michigan Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 2016. Janet and her husband also had a cleaning service called Sunset Cleaning.

Janet was deeply devoted to her family and especially proud of her grandchildren. She was known for her sewing talents and baking skills and affectionately referred to by many as the “Cookie Lady,” often sharing plates of her famous sour cream cookies. Janet generously donated hand-sewn Christmas tree skirts, wreaths, ornaments, and decorative towels to the St. Ann’s Society of Holy Childhood Church.

She loved the beach, spending time with family, and cherished traditions. Janet organized the annual Fourth of July Kloss picnic and enjoyed seasonal monthly dinners with her high school friends.

Janet is survived by her husband Dennis; their children David (Tammy) Sydow, Angela (Bryan) Hibbler and Julie Sydow; grandchildren Adam (Emma) Sydow, Kelsey (Ben) Orling, Alyssa Sydow, Erich Hibbler, and Lauren Hibbler; great-granddaughter Mabel Orling; brothers Paul (Pat) Kloss and Ron (Cindy) Kloss; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Stella Kloss; her son Andrew Sydow; sister Susan Jones; brothers Andrew (Louella) Kloss, and James (Harriet) Kloss; sister Mary Ellen (Nick) DeLeonardis; and niece Debbie DeLeonardis.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
