Janice M (Smith) Coleman

Janice M. Coleman, 96 of Onaway, passed away May 8, 2023 at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs.

Janice was born in Onaway August 24, 1926 to Jasper and Ruth (Purdy) Smith.  She grew up and graduated from high school in Onaway. 

On August 17, 1946, Janice married Reginald Coleman on the family farm in Onaway.  She worked in the capital area at Lansing Community Services among other professions.  She was active with the Masonic Eastern Star, TOPS in Onaway for over 20 years and at St. James Episcopal Church in Cheboygan. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts.  She enjoyed her flowers, watching the birds and scenery at Black Lake.

Janice is survived by her son Michael (Theresa) Coleman, daughter in law Anna Coleman, son in law Frits

Ponsen, grandchildren Suzanne (Vincent) Carney, Mark (Kim) Coleman, Peter (Holly) Ponsen and Alison

(Nick) Trettel. Great grandchildren Sam and Evan Carney, Lucy, Jack and Max Coleman and Alexander Ponsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Patrick Coleman, daughter Suzanne Ponsen, brothers Thomas and Howard Smith and sister Genevieve Varty.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials made to St. James Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
