Janis P Duski

Janis “Jan” Patricia Duski, 59 of Indian River, passed away on January 5, 2024 in Indian River, Michigan.

Jan grew up in downriver Detroit, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Chmura.  She attended the University of Detroit for her undergraduate training, and went on to the University of Michigan for Dental school leading as class president.  After graduation, she entered the US Air Force as Captain in the dental corps. After serving her country, Jan spent the next 35 years making it her mission to bring a smile to every patients face.  

There was no one who loved harder in this world than Jan.  She offered her entire being — heart and soul to everyone she encountered.  She always held up the mirror to remind you of how wonderful and special you were.  She adored her family.  She was an endless dreamer and powerhouse.  Her family called her “Yoda” because of her wisdom, energy, wit, and humor.  She was selfless in every way.  She set the bar above the moon. 

Jan never quit, especially with a fishing pole in her hand.  She loved to spend time exploring and roadtripping across country with just a road map.  She saw God in everything, especially nature.  

She is survived by her husband of 34 years Dr. Edward Duski, Jr, daughter Lauren Elizabeth Duski, son Senior Airman Bradley Edward Duski of the United States Air Force, his wife Emily Duski (Taggart).  She is also survived by two grandchildren: Johnathan Edward and Isabella Marie Duski, as well as her three brothers: John, Jerry, and Robert Chmura.  She was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Chmura.  

Jan’s memorial will be held privately with her family and friends.
