Jay C. McMullan, age 99, passed away on October 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in his home.
Jay was born on November 23, 1925, to George Goodwin McMullan and Donie Walker. He graduated from Mary Persons High School in Forsythe, Georgia. He also carried the honor of being the first Eagle Scout in Forsythe.
Jay spent two years in the Army Air Corps and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in industrial management. He married Charlotte Sockwell and had one son, Jay Cauthern McMullen. He then went to work for Union Oil Company, where he stayed for thirty years.
Following Jay’s employment with Union Oil, he became a real estate manager for truck stop and retail companies, a career that took him across the country and stimulated his intelligent, hardworking spirit.
He married Marjorie McMullen in 1973, and they lived in Bloomingdale, Illinois until they retired and moved to Petoskey, Michigan. Together, they enjoyed skiing, sailing, and cruising as they enjoyed the finer things in life.
Jay is survived by Marjorie and son Jay Jr., as well as his daughter-in-law June and granddaughter Amy. He is also survived by friends Shane and Jean Brown, and their children Tyler and Shannon.
There will be a graveside service held for Jay at Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
