Jerome "Jim" J. Janis

Jerome “Jim” J. Janis, 75 of Petoskey, Michigan, passed away at Hiland Cottage on August 1, 2021.

Son of Jerome and Angela (Sliwinski) Janis, Jim was born on May 26, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan.

On November 22, 1990, he married Marjorie Lasley at their home in Petoskey.

In his early years Jim owned and operated his own engineering business. He later was the plant manager at Continental Structural Plastics in Petoskey until he retired after more than thirty years. He also worked for the Odawa Casino and Hotel.

Jim loved to fish. He had the record for the biggest salmon caught out of Little Traverse Bay at one point. He also enjoyed gardening and riding his lawn mower to cut the grass. Yet, his favorite thing to do was talk to people. He had a great gift to gab and was a people person.

Jim was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie; his step-sons Ken (Andy Blechman) Crouch and Scott (Shelly) Crouch; his step-grandchildren Tyler and Travis Crouch; his sister Kay Weber; his nieces Lisa Smith and Christa (Brian) Cuyler; and his great-nieces: Clair Smith, Zoe Cuyler, and Sophia Cuyler.

Jim is preceded in death by his brother William Janis.

A memorial service for Jim will be officiated by Father Greg McCallum at Stone Funeral Home on August 6, 2021 at 6:00 PM. A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM.
