Joan M. Rohr, 90, of Indian River passed away Tuesday November 16, 2021
at American House in Petoskey. Joan was born February 12, 1931 in Detroit to Joseph and Regina (Heidenreich) Jaminet. She grew up in Detroit and attended St. Ambrose Catholic School, graduating in 1948. She received her bachelors of Arts degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian MI. On June 22, 1963 Joan married Richard (Dick) Rohr in Southfield. The couple made their home in Rochester. Joan was an elementary teacher for Detroit public schools for 12 years and Utica public schools for 18 years before retiring in 1988 when the couple moved to Indian River where they have lived since, except for 4 years when they lived in Tennessee. She enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting, traveling and having friends over for food and drinks. Joan was a member of Cross in the Woods, where she and Dick served as greeters, Indian River Womens Club, Friends of Indian River Area Library, where she volunteered and read to the blind and taught adults to read. And a member of the "Thirsty Thursday Club".
Joan is survived by her children Timothy (Susan) Rohr, Matthew (Carol) Rohr and four grandchildren Christine, Steven, Douglas and Daniel, sister Mary Elizabeth (Alfred) Rowe. She was preceded in death by her Husband Richard and her brother Joseph Jaminet.
Joan's Funeral Mass will be Friday November 19th at 1PM with public viewing from 11:30 till 1:00 at Cross in the Woods Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Shrine Cemetery.
