Joann Cotterman Lundberg of Petoskey, MI. passed away at the age of 90 on February 14th, 2021 and went to join her Valentine and true love Dick Lundberg, her husband of 40 years.
Joann was born in Bryan, Ohio, on June 28th, 1930. She graduated from Bryan High School and attended Michigan State University, where she joined the Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated with a BA in Education in 1952.
Joann and Dick met at MSU and were proud Spartans. Joann returned to Bryan, Ohio to teach kindergarten while Dick went to serve his country in the Navy. They were married June 15th, 1957 and raised their two children Blake and Amy in Plymouth, MI.
Joann was a member of Bay View Association. She started bringing her family to Bay View in the summer of 1971 and the family fell in love with the Petoskey area. Joann and Dick retired to Petoskey in July of 1992. She was active with Bay View volunteering on committees and attending all the programs offered. She could be found every Sunday in the same seat same row at Bay View worship services. She shared her love of the Bay View experience with her five granddaughters highlighted by her annual “Nana Camp”.
Joann was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1967, making many lifelong friends, and was a founding member of Chapter FH Petoskey - Harbor Springs, serving as President in 2000-02. Joann was a member of Petoskey United Methodist Church and the Petoskey Garden Club. She took great pride caring for the bridge box flowers downtown and was an avid home gardener. Many people would pass by her home to see her summers work.
Joann had a sincere love for her family, friends, neighbors and community. She was a woman of great strength and independence. Those that knew her enjoyed her quick wit and her warm friendly smile.
Joann leaves behind her daughter Amy Lundberg Dozeman and son-in-law Doug; five granddaughters Emily and Anna Lundberg; Kirsten, Julia and Sophie Dozeman. She was preceded in death by husband Dick Lundberg, son Blake and daughter-in-law Becky as well as her faithful rescue dog Murphy.
