John J. Dykstra, age 84 of Mackinaw City, Michigan, passed away February 18, 2026, at home under hospice after a long battle with Heart Disease. He was born on March 10, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the son of Henry and Anna (Engelsman) Dykstra.
He grew up and attended school in Grand Rapids. In 1962 he married his first wife Anita Sue Zroman. Then on July 30, 1983, he married Mary Reusch in Kalamazoo. John dedicated most of his career to General Motors, where he worked as an engineer. He was also a devoted member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing in his free time.
John is survived by his loving wife Mary; two sons, Dale and Paul Dykstra; three stepsons, Vance, Eric, and Vincent Reusch; grandchildren, Nicole, Brian, Adam, Paul Jr., and Jack Dykstra; and step-grandchildren, Magena, Oscar, and Silas. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place, a memorial service will take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
