John William Guisinger, 80 of Harbor Springs, MI died July 20, 2025 at the Boulder Park Terrace facility in Charlevoix due to complications of a stroke.
John was born February 9, 1945 in Lake Charles, LA, the son of Robert and Mary (Feily) Guisinger of Conway MI. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School, Petoskey in 1963, served in the Army from 1969-1971 and completed his BS in Business Administration from Lake Superior State College in 1972.
John had many endeavors throughout his life, including being a pilot and owning Phillips Flying Service at the Harbor Springs Airport. He then owned Midas Muffler shops in Petoskey, Alpena and Sault Ste. Marie and later Bay View Car Care of Petoskey and Alpena Car Care. An avid boater, he enjoyed the inland waterway from Conway to Cheboygan on Sky Pilot (Yellow Boat) and cruising the North Channel on the Egg Harbor. His lifelong passion for skiing and racing lead to numerous awards, coaching and travel to Europe to ski the big mountains.
He and his wife Jane were members and former members of Mackinac Island Yacht Club, Les Cheneaux Yacht Club, Little Traverse Yacht Club, Crooked Lake Yacht Club and Boyne Country Club. Both enjoyed skiing, horses, reading and entertaining with their gourmet cooking club. Most recently, John was becoming a passionate golfer and enjoying the challenge.
John is survived by children Frank (Helen) Andreae, Ashley Andreae, siblings Robert Guisinger, Michael Guisinger, Patrick Guisinger, Janet Guisinger, Mark Guisinger, Susan (Mac) Jacob, brother-in-law Riley Turcott and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Jane Taylor, parents Robert and Mary and sister Mary Lou Turcott.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 2-5:00 pm at The Highlands of Harbor Springs in the Day Lodge Blue Room.
