John Juday Obituary

John P Juday Sr., 85  of Petoskey, Michigan, passed away at home on March, 8th 2023.

John was born on Dec 12, 1938 in Troy Ohio to Hugh and Mary (Jones) Juday where he grew up on an experimental farm. Later he moved to Dayton, Ohio and then to Boyne City, Michigan. While in Boyne City he graduated from high school in 1957 where he played baseball, basketball, and his football and track teams went to the State Finals. After high school he attended Western Michigan University where he studied to be a math teacher and coach.

He married Linda L Lumley (Boyne City) on June 4th, 1960 and together they moved to Petoskey where they raised their family on a small farm in Resort Township. They enjoyed 63 happy years together.

John’s career as a sheet metal worker took him all around the state working on industrial projects. His interests were running the family farm, fishing on inland lakes as well as Lake Michigan, working in his woodshop where he crafted both large and small projects, hunting white tailed deer and was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 158 where he had many years of camping and leading the Scouts.

John spent 35 years officiating high school football, basketball and umpiring Little League Baseball for which he received the “Vern L. Norris Award for Outstanding Contributions to Sports Officiating” awarded by the Michigan High School Athletic Association in May 2010.

In 2005 John received the “Lifetime achievement Award from Beyond the Scoreboard “Pursuing Victory with Honor”.

John also was a longtime member and elder of Zion Lutheran Church of Petoskey and of the Resort Township Farm Bureau.

John was blessed and is survived by his wife Linda, his four children John Jr (Debra), Scott (Lauri), Ben (Kristie) & Susan Joba (Bob), grandchildren Toni, Donnald, Dannielle, James, Judy, Rob, Lee, Kurt , Lorne, Johnathan, Caitlin, and blessed with many Great & Great-Great Grandchildren.

John is predeceased by his parents Hugh and Mary Juday and brother Eugene (Gene) Juday.

Visitation will be Monday, March 11th from 9:00-11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Petoskey, Michigan with the service immediately following.
