John D. Oliver

John D. Oliver, age 85, of Indian River passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs. He was born December 18, 1933 in Plymouth, the son of Fred and Vivian (Taylor) Oliver. On October 26, 1957 in Brighton, John married Gayle Smith who survives.

John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War, serving in Germany, England, France and Greece. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He had worked for General Motors, first as a driver and eventually as a supervisor of the truck and bus plant at the Proving Grounds in Milford. He retired in 1997 after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Indian River American Legion and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, boating and traveling.

Besides his wife Gayle, John is survived by his two children, John M. (Deborah) Oliver of Afton and Kim (Steve McCafferty) Oliver-McCafferty of Indian River,  two granddaughters, Cristi (Joshua) Anderson of Cadillac and Madison McCafferty of Nashville, TN and one great grandson, Brett Anderson of Cadillac.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joan Campbell and Jane Densmore.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.  Arrangements are being handled by the Lintz Funeral Home.
