John Pater passed away on September 27, 2021, at the age of 97. Born on September 20, 1924, in the Kegomic neighborhood of Petoskey, John was a life-long area resident.
After graduation from Petoskey High School in 1941, John entered the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II.
Upon returning home, John became a licensed master plumber. He was well known to local and summer residents who depended on him to open and close their cottages. He loved his work and had many long-standing clients who valued his integrity and trusted his services for decades.
John enjoyed golf, Polish food (especially pierogies) and had quite a sweet tooth, possibly two. A man of deep faith, he attended and supported the National Shrine of the Cross in Indian River.
Over the years and especially most recently, John appreciated the unwavering support from his family and friends. He also appreciated the fine support of his doctor and the many career health care workers who looked out for his health, safety and well-being.
John was preceded in death by his parents Mary (Baran) and Stanley Pater; Stella (Alec) Lukasik; Walter (Anne) Pater; Helen Pater; Elizabeth (Douglas) Kirsch; Edward (Marilyn) Pater; Joseph Pater; and Lucille (Carl) Foster. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
John will be fondly remembered for his kindness, integrity, deep faith and ready laugh. He will be greatly missed. A life celebration will be held next summer when more family can attend.
