John Peariso Obituary

John Richard Peariso, 74, of Alanson, died November 25, 2021 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

John was born September 29, 1947, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the son of Dolores (Collins) and David Peariso, Sr. He grew up in Harbor Springs, Michigan and graduated from high school in 1967.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968-1970. John was always very proud of his military service and was a lifelong patriot.

Upon returning home, John started working at Giant Supermarket in Petoskey. He was employed there for 25 years as Head Cashier.

On June 13, 1987, he married the love of his life, Doreen Horning. Together, they worked hard to get John’s own locksmith company started. He eventually left the grocery store and started running ‘The Lockmaster’ full time in the early 1990’s, with Doreen’s help as bookkeeper.

At the heart of everything John did, he longed to be in service of others. He was generous with his time, whether it be homeless outreach during his years in Mesa, Arizona, or volunteering to be an usher at church; he was selfless to a fault. He volunteered for over 10 years as a member of the Victims Service Unit and five years for the Sheriff Auxiliary program.

He loved traveling and going on camping trips with his wife. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his kind heart.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Doreen Peariso of Alanson; his children, Craig (Nina Dieson) Peariso of Petoskey, Melody (Juson) Johnson of Big Rapids, and Yvonne Peariso of Elmira; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Peariso of Lawton, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Susan Inman of Boyne City; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary Rinock, Jeannie Milbrandt, David Peariso, Jr. and Jerry Peariso, Sr.; nephews, Jerry Peariso, Jr., Jim Rinock, Jr. and Rick Rinock; as well as his brother-in-law, Jim Rinock, Sr.
