John D. Young, 88 of Rudyard, MI and formerly of Lakewood and Lake Zurich, IL, died November 30, 2021 at the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
John was born on October 8, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of Goar T. and Dora (Neuenfeldt) Young and was raised in Oak Park, IL. He graduated from St Ignatius High School in Oak Park, served his country in the US Army and later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL.
On June 18th, 1960, John Married Patricia Durso at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elmhurst, IL and John worked at the Bankers Life and Casualty Company in Chicago for over 30 years as a Policy Drafter.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rudyard and enjoyed crossword puzzles, eating out, cooking, baking, reading but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia; 3 children, Karen (Mark) Sprague, John (Beth nee Price) Young and Janice (Robert) Nieman; 8 grandchildren, Amber (Edward) Sanchez, Emily (Kalin) Cox, Anna (Patrick) Burke, Megan Sprague, Jonah Sprague, Ellen Nieman, Amanda Young and Eli Sprague; great grandchildren, Kaylee Burke, Nathanael Sanchez, Madison Burke, plus two more on the way; sister, Helen Gallagher; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David (Jeanie nee Mottet) Young; and by 4 siblings, Thomas Young, Harold Young, Donald Young, and Dorothy Young.
A memorial service is planned for spring of 2022. Those wishing to honor John’s memory are asked to make a donation to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rudyard.
