John “Jack” A. Banwell born on September 25, 1933, in Littlefield Township, Emmet County, Michigan, to Albert “Ab” Banwell and Joyce (Freed) Banwell. He graduated from the Alanson High School in 1951. In 1956 he married Marilyn Vroman and they resided on the Banwell farm.
On August 10, 1990, he married Mary Jane Lasley. They resided in Ponshewaing in Alanson. He enjoyed all sports, also camping, traveling, and dancing. He loved music and had a wonderful tenor voice. He was a generous, thoughtful, kind, compassionate man who will be remembered as a caregiver to many.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane, parents, sister Glenna, and daughter-in-law Pam.
Survivors include his two sons, Steven Banwell, Colorado, John (Linda) Banwell, Florida; two daughters, Pamela (Steve) Parker, Louisiana, Laurie (Larry) Stead, Petoskey; stepson Michael (Laura) Lasley, Traverse City; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Jack was Emmet County Treasurer for 33 years and worked for the County for 38 years. He was a member of the Indian River Eagles and VFW at large.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, 43rd Armored Infantry Battalion in 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict.
Cremation has taken place and a visitation will be held at Stone Funeral Home on November 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM t o 3:00 PM. Friends and family wishing to share a thought or memory of Jack are encouraged to do so online at www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com .
Interment will be at Littlefield Township Cemetery in Alanson at a later date.
