Jon Shawa Obituary

Jon Albert Shawa, 60, of Wolverine passed away on April 14, 2025, at his home. Jon was born on January 23, 1965, in Lansing, MI, the son of Francis Shawa and Norma (Dashner) Shawa. He grew up and graduated high school in Wolverine, MI. Jon had an incredible zest for life. He traveled around the world any opportunity he got, venturing to Greece, Italy, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands, just to name a few. Family, however, was the most meaningful thing for Jon. The special nicknames he gave to each and every one of his nieces and nephews will be forever remembered. Being as outgoing as he was, Jon never met a stranger, and always knew how to strike up a conversation or make someone smile. Jon was a proud member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians.

Jon is survived by his sister, Francene (Mike) McCorkle, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great-greats. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law Beverly Shawa, CJ Sprague, and Debra Shawa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Ramona Shawa, as well as siblings Edward Shawa, Sandra (Jim) Gleason, Jeffery Sprague, Garry Shawa, and Claudia Shawa.

There will be a memorial service for Jon on Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at the Wolverine Free Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 11am, with a memorial service at 12pm.
