Jonathan Richter Obituary

Jonathan Michael Richter, 45, of Indian River, died on June 12, 2021, as a result of suicide. Jon was a Gift of Life Donor and was able to help countless people through his organ and tissue donation.

He was born on March 27, 1976, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Michael and Laurie (Bekkering) Richter. Due to his father’s military service, he moved often as a child, but eventually landed in Boyne City, Michigan, where he graduated High School in 1994.

After graduation, Jon joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for a few years. He returned to Northern Michigan where he met and married the love of his life, Lisa Grams, on November 6, 2004.

Jon worked in the plumbing and heating business, at Ginop for over 10 years, and most recently for Sheren, Plumbing, Heating and Cooling. Although Jon was a hard worker, he was equally good at partying and letting loose. In the summertime, if he wasn’t at work, Jon was on his boat. He loved going on the lake, sharing a drink with friends, and having a good time. This lifestyle created quite a few memorable nicknames such as “Petoskey Girl”, “Wing Nut”, “Wheelchair Jon”, “Jet-Ski Jon”, “Crouton Jon” and “Jon Deere”. He always had a smile on his face and was the life of the party. He will be sorely missed.

Jon is survived by his wife, Lisa Richter; his children, Alyson Richter, Samantha (Justin) Dodge, Olivia Massey, Richelle Massey, and Brandon Massey; nine grandchildren, Dixie, Ollie, Owen, Aurora, Sage, Dakota, Ivory, Annelise, Elaina, and one more on the way; his mother, Laurie Richter; his brother, Joseph Richter; his dogs, Sally Sue and Brewster; and by countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Richter; and his very close friends, Jordan Hirdes and Damon Hendrickson.

There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jon's life at Pinehurst Bar and Grill (6214 Lake St, Indian River, MI 49749) on  Saturday July 10th, 2021, starting at 4:00 p.m.
