Joseph Bochniak Obituary

Beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully on Saturday November 16, 2025, at age 67, in the comforting presence of family.

Joe was born in Petoskey, Michigan on March 6, 1958, to son of the late Ben and Helen Bochniak, and brother to Janet, Joni, and Genny. He spent his childhood on the Bochniak Farm on Resort Pike Road and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1976. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Business from Ferris State University in 1986. Joe dedicated his early career to Burns Clinic and then to the field of Information Technology, and later successfully fulfilled his dream of owning his own motorcycle repair business, North Coast Cycle, while working as an Insurance Inspector.

On September 8, 2007, Joe married the love of his life, Claudia “Cookie” Bochniak, who survives him. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, friends, and shared interests. They enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, “treasure hunting” at yard sales, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Joe found great satisfaction in woodworking and enjoyed making gifts for family and friends. His happiest times were those spent with family, friends, his sister in-laws, brother in-laws and his “brother”, Harold Jones. He loved building Legos with his grandkids. In recent years, his health slowed him down, but he will always be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness. His unconditional love and support for his family knew no bounds and will live forever in their hearts.

Joe was blessed with three loving daughters: Emily (Calvin) Bochniak of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Jessica (Matthew) McGuiness of Petoskey, and Kaitlyn (Kirk) Bochniak of Green Bay, Wisconsin; two stepchildren: Brett (Shelley) Costello of Saline and Meghan Costello of Petoskey; and seven grandchildren who he adored: Audrey, Luci, Brantley, Joey, Grant, Casey, and Owen; and his sisters: Genny (Jim) McCoy, Joni Johnson and Janet Fettig.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janet Fettig, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Fettig and David Johnson. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Honoring Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services scheduled. Family and friends will gather for his Celebration of Life in the Spring of 2026 to share stories and laughs in his honor.
