Joseph Harvey Hawkins

Joseph Harvey Hawkins, 81, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 13th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was a beloved son, brother, and uncle who will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and love of the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and shooting, and he was rarely without a loyal K-9 companion by his side. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

For many years, Joe worked alongside his brother Bill, co-owning and operating Hawkins Bros. Inc., a family business built on hard work and dedication.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Bertie and Elizabeth Hawkins, and his older brother, James Hawkins.

Though Joe never married, he was deeply loved and cherished as “Uncle Joe” by his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his younger brother Grant “Bill” (Salli) Hawkins; his sister Janet (Mike) Bango; nieces and nephews Jason (Emily) Moody, Peter Moody, Christine (Brandon) Rose, and Sara Hawkins; and great-nieces and great-nephews Elizabeth, Jett, Morrison, and Margot.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at a later date.
