Judy Wanke, 75, of Cheboygan, passed away peacefully December 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Hospice House in Cheboygan.
A lifelong resident of the area, Judy was born in Cheboygan, the daughter of Kashamer and Virginia (Socolovitch) Tryban. She grew up in Riggsville and graduated from Cheboygan Catholic High School. After graduation, she studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Judy worked as a nurse for over 30 years, spending most of her long career at Community Memorial Hospital in Cheboygan.
On May 6, 1967, she married the love of her life, Amiel Wanke, at Sacred Heart Church in Riggsville where she was a lifelong member. Together, they built a house, tended a farm, and raised two children. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her sisters and grandchildren, gardening, and birdwatching.
Judy is survived by her children, John (Sara) Wanke, and Julie (Derek) Hogland, and grandchildren Ella, Callie, and Trevor. She is also survived by her siblings, Cash (Pat) Tryban, Suzanne (Burt) Matteson, Mary Lou (Wayne) Littrell, Dianne (Jim) Myers, Patty (Dan) Jarzabkowski, Bob (friend Tracee) Tryban, and Kristine (David) Bailey, sister-in-law Gloria Mendrick, brother-in-law Ken (Jane) Wanke, and brother-in-law Terry Ellis. She is also survived by her three special aunts and many nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Amiel, her parents, Kashamer and Virginia Tryban, and her sisters, Betty O’Brien and Jeanne Ellis.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville at 11:00 am on Friday, December 28, 2018, with the family greeting friends at the church beginning at 10:00am. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate, burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery in Cheboygan in the spring. A luncheon will follow for family and friends immediately after the mass at the church.
