Julian Charles Skop, age 88, of Boyne Falls, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on
Sunday, July 6, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Julian was born on January 21, 1937, in Boyne Falls, where he lived a full and dedicated life
rooted in family, hard work, and community. A proud graduate of Boyne Falls High School, Class
of 1956, Julian began his lifelong career at Boyne Mountain Resort shortly thereafter. His strong
work ethic and steadfast commitment spanned an impressive 47 years, earning him the respect
and admiration of all who worked alongside him.
On June 13, 1959, Julian married the love of his life, Freda Bauman. Together, they built a
beautiful life in Boyne Falls, raising their two sons and enjoying the simple joys of small-town
living.
Julian had a passion for farming and found great peace in working the land, tending his garden,
and canning produce with Freda by his side. He took pride in watching his sons, Robert and
Charles, pursue their own passions, from building mud bogs to racing cars—always cheering
them on with pride. Known for his mechanical know-how and resourcefulness, Julian was the
man everyone turned to when something needed fixing. He was a familiar face at the
Flywheelers and local Auctions, where his presence was as reliable as his friendly smile.
Julian is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Freda; his sons Robert (Lisa) Skop of
Petoskey and Charles (Diane) Skop of Vanderbilt; his cherished grandchildren James (Abby)
Skop of Alanson, Adam (Carmen) Skop of Petoskey, and Charles (Arianna) Skop of Gaylord;
and his great-granddaughter, Aurora Julian Skop (namestake). He also leaves behind several
nieces and nephews who will miss his steady guidance and kind heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wasyl and Julia Skop; his brother, Don Skop of
Boyne Falls; and his sisters, Theresa Jasko of Detroit and Regina Denise of Boyne Falls.
A funeral service celebrating Julian’s life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Stackus
Funeral Home in Boyne City. The family will gather privately at 9:00 a.m., with friends welcome
beginning at 10:00 a.m. A prayer service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Julian's legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering devotion to family, and a life lived with
purpose. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
