Kathleen Weidman Obituary

Kathleen Susanne (Grigg) Weidman, 76, was born in Detroit, MI and lovingly adopted by Robert A. and Betty M. (Agosta) Grigg.  Kathy grew up in Southfield, MI and attended Marion High School, Western Michigan University, and Eastern Michigan University where she received degrees in English, Communications and Education. Her passion  was in  teaching and more specifically working with wayward youth and young adults, helping them see the value of their own education. Kathy met Jim while they were both at  Western Michigan University and they married August 22, 1970.  From there they moved to Kewaunee, WI where she taught school for two years before teaching in Portage, Plymouth and Cheboygan Michigan.  In 1974, her daughter, Stacey, was born and her son, Chris, followed in 1977. Her motto with both kids was “Major on the major, and minor on the minor”.

In Kathy, you’d find a compassionate, kind, empathetic, forgiving, loving, resilient, and special woman. Children and teenagers would easily be comfortable with Kathy due to her non-judgmental and loving approach, but always in her teacher mode. Adults too, felt her reach and love.  For many years, she was an adult youth minister in the St. Colette Catholic Church Youth Group in Livonia, MI. This became a shared passion for Kathy and Jim.  While living on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan she hosted and cooked for up to 35 teens and adult chaperones every summer, during winter ski weekends, and for adult retreats.

Grandchildren became a large part of her life.  Stacey’s two children, Macartan and Linnah, were loved so very much by Nani (grandma).  They stayed at Nani's for many weeks in the summers and were treated to great food, ice cream, boating, skiing, and lots of love.  Another large part of her life was scrapbooking and ancestry searching. She created a scrapbook for many years of the grandchildren’s lives, along with many family books.  Her search for her biological family was an intense project. She won the big prize when she was united with her biological family on her paternal side (two brothers and a sister) who all were born and reside in Canada.  This brought her dual citizenship and wonderful new relationships.  She was over the moon. Kathy was a very caring and loving person who was loved by everyone she met and will be greatly missed for many generations.

Kathy is survived by the following loved ones: Jim, husband 54 years, Stacey Lynn Stevens (Weidman) daughter, Chrisopher (Chris) James Weidman son, Macartan Stevens grandson, Linnah Stevens granddaughter, Carolyn Carr (sister), Al  and Janet Cram (brother and sister-in-law), Dave Cram (brother) and The Weaver Family, Maria (honorary daughter), Randy, Addi and Parker Weaver.

The family is accepting donations on her behalf for the Michigan Roundtable for Just Communities directed to the Mama Akua Community House. A celebration of life will be hosted at Stacey’s house on May 31, 2025 from 1-5pm. Please contact the family for an address.
