Kathleen "Kitty" A. (Brotherston) Truman

Kathleen "Kitty" A. (Brotherston) Truman, 82, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away on June 5, 2026, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan.

Kitty was born on September 27, 1943, in Charlevoix, Michigan, the only child of J. Earl "Coach" and Bernice L. (Gould) Brotherston. She attended Boyne City public schools and graduated with the Class of 1962.

On April 11, 1969, she married Roger Joseph Denio in Charlevoix and two children were born to this union, Joy Lynn Denio in 1970 and John E. Denio in 1972. On August 18, 1982, she married Gary Truman in Petoskey.  

Kitty was very active in her church; the school where she was very proud of the football field that was named after her dad. She rarely missed many ball games and if the weather was good, she would ride her motorized wheelchair. She was a Rambler fan through and through. Her true love was the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and the Red Wings. If you went to visit while these games were on, she had a kind way of letting you know you were interrupting her game.

She spent many hours drinking coffee and visiting with anyone that came into the local book store. Whether she knew them or not. She also loved Stroll the Streets, weather permitting she was there every Friday night.

In October of 2021, Kitty suffered a severe stroke that left her paralyzed - but she made great strides and was able to have a pretty good quality of life. This is where Kitty met her “real” family at Grandvue. They treated Kitty like a queen, and Kitty had her favorites and was quite the little “busy body”. She was very happy at Grandvue.

If you choose, in lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to go to her church, First Presbyterian of Boyne City, or Grandvue Medical Care Facility.

Kitty is survived by her son John Denio and cousins.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Rick Donahoe will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City on June 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
