Kathryn Marie Buchweitz
1947 – 2025
Kathryn “Kathy” Marie Buchweitz, age 78, of Pellston, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025.
Born in 1947, Kathy lived a life defined by love for her family, dedication to her community, and a spirit of kindness that touched everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Elfrieda Hock, cherished niece Karen Hartwig and her beloved husband, Dennis Buchweitz, with whom she shared a devoted marriage filled with love and adventure. Together, they built a family that was her greatest pride and joy.
Kathy is survived by her son, Jeff Buchweitz and his wife Beth; her daughter, Jennifer Stull and her husband Tim; and her treasured grandchildren, Clay Buchweitz and his wife Niki, Kate Buchweitz, and Mac Stull. Nothing brought her more happiness than being “Nana”—she celebrated every milestone, traveled to see her grandchildren whenever she could, and never missed a chance to share how proud she was of them.
She also leaves behind her niece Susan (David Senner) Hartwig, and her best friend, her sister, Joan (Bill) Hartwig. There was no stronger bond than the one they shared.
A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, but a lifelong Michigan State Spartan, Kathy went on to work as a bookkeeper and spent much of her life as a dedicated military spouse. Together with Dennis, they created a worldwide circle of friends that she cherished until her passing. Wherever she lived, she gave her time and heart to her community and friends. After settling in Pellston, she became an active member of the Douglas Lake Association and found joy in volunteering as a reader for the kindergarten classes at Pellston Elementary School, where her warmth and patience made her a favorite among children and teachers alike.
Kathy was known as a loyal friend who always had a smile, a listening ear, and genuine care for those around her. She cherished her circle of friends and especially enjoyed her golf outings with her girlfriends in their Wednesday Golf League. Her love and her devotion to her family made her life rich and meaningful.
Above all, Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, her generosity, and her ability to make those around her feel loved and valued.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan, Michigan. A reception will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will also be planned for the summer of 2026, allowing friends and family to gather in her honor.
