Kathy Lee (Gilbert) Poineau

                Kathy Lee Poineau, 77 of Cheboygan passed away on August 6, 2025, at her home. Kathy was born on January 20, 1948, in Buena Vista, the daughter of Charles Gilbert & Margaret Wagner. She grew up in Buena Vista as well and attended Buena Vista High School. Being lifelong friends, Kathy knew that she would marry Robert Poineau since she was 9 years old, and on April 4th, 1964, she did just that. The couple was wed at the Justice of the Peace in Saginaw, MI and shared many loving years together.

Kathy was everybody’s Nana. She loved baking, cooking, dancing, and swimming. She was incredibly independent, thoughtful, and loved taking care of others. Kathy’s favorite holiday was Christmas and every year she would celebrate by baking up a festive mix of fudge, caramels, and gingerbread men. Kathy was a previous volunteer at United Way.

                Kathy is survived by her children Theresa Marie (Michael) Dilts, Robert Louis Poineau Jr., and Thomas Dean (Teena) Poineau, grandchildren Brittanie Lee (Adam) VanHouten, Kayla Marie (Kyle) Zurawski, Dean (Monica) Gilbert, Ray Gilbert, Johnathan Poineau, Erina Casey, and Alyssa Casey. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Gavin VanHouten, Xander VanHouten, Kassandra VanHouten, Makayla VanHouten, Melodie Zurawski, Carter Rai Gilbert, and Jayce Dean Gilbert, as well as sister Margaret “Marge” (Bill) Hayes, and daughter-in-law Rachel Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Poineau Sr., her son Dean Kenneth Gilbert, as well as her parents.
