Kaylop “George” Schoolcraft, 71, of Alanson, MI, peacefully joined the Lord on March 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs, MI. George had a strong focus for his family and friends, never hesitating to lend a hand. He was a loving, and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather always putting the needs of his family before his own.
Goerge was born at his home in Afton, MI, to Marvin and Ethel (Moore) Schoolcraft on April 9, 1954, where he grew up helping take care of the family farm and attending Inland Lakes Schools. He went on to hold many employment positions including a brief employment at the Ford Motor Company. He discovered his passion in the construction industry where he found his true calling as a mason. Through hard work and dedication, he later started and operated, with great pride, a successful masonry business with his son. When George was not working, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and shooting the breeze with great friends. He eventually retired in 2019 and was able to fully enjoy his family.
On June 28, 1974, George married the love of his life, Julie Bunker. Together they built a beautiful life and had four children, Matthew, Faith, Sabrina and Caleb. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished his 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
George is preceded in death by his beloved wife Julie, his father Marvin, mother Ethel, sisters Louise and Sara Vallance and brothers Carl, and Rodger. He is survived by his children Matthew (Indy) Bunker, Faith (Tyler Schmit), Sabrina (Scott Thompson) and Caleb (Kelli) Schoolcraft. He is also survived by siblings Oliver (Kathy), Vera (Rex Vallance), Betsy (Don Shuster), and Sally Gordier, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date that will be shared with family and friends.
